Recertification
Certified CHWs must obtain ten (10) professional development credits (PDCs) each year and submit evidence of twenty (20) PDCs every two years for recertification. One qualifying professional development credit or PDC must be at least 45 minutes long and can be content-focused or profession-focused. Please see the examples below for both types of PDCs. You must count only the educational/professional time spent and exclude travel time, registration, meals, breaks, pre-work, homework or other non-educational parts of an activity.
Examples of content-focused PDCs:
one-hour session related to diabetes prevention and screening (1 PDC)
50-minute session related to community research opportunities (1 PDC)
2-hour webinar related to emotional wellness and mental health resources (2 PDCs)
Examples of profession-focused PDCs:
one-hour ARCHWA regional networking meeting (1 PDC)
75-minute ARCHWA summit planning committee session (1 PDC)
one-hour National Association of Community Health Workers meeting (1 PDC)
Participation in profession-focused PDCs may qualify for up to 50% of recertification credits. Recertification PDCs may be face-to-face, virtual, or hybrid. ARCHWA typically awards 6 PDCs for a full, one-day seminar.
The cost for recertification is $50. Additional fees are required for late applications:
1-30 days past due - $30
31-60 days past due - $60
61-90 days past due - $90
91+ days past due Certification is inactive, and CHW must complete a new application.
